EUL Technical Director Job in Uganda


Technical Director

Our client, Eskom Uganda limited (EUL) is a subsidiary company of Eskom Enterprises (Proprietary) Limited South Africa. 
EUL is the main hydro power electricity generating company in Uganda and has been operating in Uganda for more than nine (9) years. 
EUL wishes to recruit a Technical Director.

Reporting to the Managing Director, the Technical Director will be responsible for provision of leadership in maintenance, engineering, and operations functions of EUL to ensure customer satisfaction and effective operational excellence, and assess management as per the concession agreements in order to obtain the required plant availability and comply with technical limits.

Key responsibilities
  • Develop and implement the technical plan for the technical division to ensure effective and efficient operation of the plant;
  • Manage relations with the asset owner, the customer and the regulators;
  • Review and update the maintenance philosophy to suit plant conditions;
  • Design and implement a mechanism to provide technical and quality specifications for spares and equipment purchases;
  • Direct and control technical projects to ensure that they are completed to the standards required within agreed time scales and the agreed budget;
  • Drive the development of new process designs intended to increase effectiveness of the plant;
  • Develop technical systems and procedures to ensure compliance with company directives, policies, guidelines, processes, regulations, legislative and statutory requirements;
  • Prepare annual production plans for the plant in line with the power purchase agreement;
  • Ensure compliance to all statutory requirements which includes Safe working procedures,
  • Environmental compliances, HV & LV Safety Regulations, and PTW (Permit to Work);
  • Ensure continuous reliable power supply in liaison with all stakeholders;
  • Develop and implement a mechanism for investigating any plant failures and implementing corrective measures;
  • Monitor contractual and statutory compliance for all technical activities as per the business contracts and applicable law;
  • Design and implement a mechanism for constant supply of competent staff in all the technical processes;
  • Manage the development and implementation of the technical annual budget; and
  • Mentor and coach all technical staff with specific focus on developing a local talent.
Person specifications
The successful candidate will have:
  • Good understanding of the hydro power plant systems, project management, financial and commercial literacy, and power plant maintenance philosophies;
  • Demonstrable good record of performance, executive presence and decision making, as well as a good understanding of technology management; and
  • Evidence of stakeholder and people management skills.
We are looking for a candidate who holds a Bachelor of Science degree (Mechanical/ Electrical Engineering) from a recognized university. 
The candidate must have at least five years experience in managing Power Plant Technology at senior management level.
