Safaricom Senior Manager - Product Development - Strategic Projects Job in Kenya


We are pleased to announce the following vacancy within the Finance Services Business Unit. 
In keeping with our current business needs, we are looking for a person who meets the criteria indicated below:

Senior Manager - Product Development - Strategic Projects

Reporting to the Head of Department – M-PESA Operations & Product Development and, the job holder will set and manage the strategic Financial Services projects, including roll out, -on going performance and enhancement of the new and existing products  and  ensure systems/products meet the set business standards.

The job holder’s key responsibilities will be to:
  • Manage the projects roadmap in the country including local & VF requirements working with VF & SC technical and commercial teams;
  • Manage the development and documentation of business case for new/enhancement  to products  and services for presentation;
  • Define product requirements for customization to meet specific customer  needs and liaises with the technical team to ensure correct  implementation;
  • Manage the testing of new/enhanced functionality, tariffs and business rules prior to implementation;
  • Development of new processes  and framework development for the M-PESA channel;
  • Ensure both Kenyan and international marketing activities  are coordinated;
  • Project Manage the delivery of new functionality and system enhancements to the market, including requirement specification, testing, documentation of processes & procedures;
  • Identify & implement local changes for process improvement, in liaison with internal stakeholders from technical and other departments;
  • Manage the training programs  for M-PESA agents and clients  on M-PESA products  and services;
  • Act as the liaison for other M-PESA  operators wishing to learn in general or in detail about the practical operation   of M-PESA in the  Country;
  • Represent the team in technical/functional meetings with party and  ensuring the 3rd party integration to M-PESA meets Safaricom standards;
  • Prepare and present project in gate committees Prepare and present business reports (daily, Weekly or monthly)
  • Manage the performance of staff in the section by defining performance indicators, assign tasks, and define goals and objectives for the staff development;
  • Manage and grow talent within the section.
Minimum Requirements:
  • Bachelors Degree in a Technical field – Telecommunications , engineering or Information Technology;
  • Project Management Certified – PMP / PMI or equivalent;
  • 10 years post-graduation work experience of which 5 years must be in a management role in FSI or Banking;
  • Experience in Banking products both core and none core, integrations, switches, processes and procedures;
  • Work experience Multiple projects simultaneously ;from start to finish ; 6-12 month duration , which have an impact across the company; have impact on customers ;which have impact on revenue generation capability of the organization
  • Good understanding of financial principles, understands financial ratios, can interpret standard financial statements;
  • Good understanding of the Kenyan market, subscriber preferences and subscriber trends;
  • Attention to detail with good organizational, planning, report writing and presentation skills;
  • Proactive, confident, energetic with the ability to work under pressure, to tight schedules/deadlines and monitor and follow up on all actions taken;
  • A highly motivated person with a positive attitude towards work, innovative, creative, results oriented with excellent analytical skills;
  • A proven team player with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
