IRC Nurses Jobs in Hagadera, Kenya


Nurses
5 Positions
Under the supervision of the Nutrition Manager, the nurse shall support coordination of clinical, medical and nutrition aspects of the nutrition program of IRC in Hagadera Refugee Camp. 
The post holder will work in close collaboration with the nutrition staff and health workers in the in the camp and host community (MOH).

Main Responsibilities.

Technical
  • Ensure quality and timely identification and treatment of medical complications associated with malnutrition in OTP in liaison with the clinical services program.
  • Give and advise on the drug regimen for children in the OTP program.
  • Supervise and coordinate the strict patient management of children in the Outpatient therapeutic feeding programs.
  • Develop and coordinate the adherence and reporting of nutrition education sessions as per developed annual plan.
  • Identify children with poor progress and provide individualized counseling.
  • Ensure height and weight screening is done for children under 10 years of age at all the service delivery points in the health posts. Conduct checks to ensure that they are accurately done.
Supervisory
  • Supervise and work in strict collaboration with the nutrition team in the screening activities of severely malnourished children.
  • Execute efficient, OTP staff annual coverage plans in liaison with the OTP Supervisor.
  • Ensure the establishment of nutrition monitoring activities.
  • Ensure that routine activities are ongoing at the health posts, provide appropriate guidance to supervisees. Where needed, in consultation with the HR and Nutrition managers take disciplinary measures as IRC administration manual.
OJT and Mentorship
  • Train the nutrition team in case detection and home-based care.
  • Mentor the auxiliary staff to manage patients with acute malnutrition as per protocol.
  • Participate in the delivery of trainings for health staff and in capacity building the health post.
Commodity Management
  • In collaboration with the Nutrition Manager and the logistics officer follow-up food provision.
Communication and reporting
  • Ensure proper communication, coordination and harmonization of tools with the different stakeholders involved in food/nutrition activities.
  • Ensure timely reporting in accordance with set deadlines.
Other
  • Participate in the conduction of studies and surveys;
  • Plan and Conduct continuous monitoring of the OTP patient management through quality of care (QoC) assessments
  • Participate in program strategic planning and roll-out of new program areas in liaison with key stakeholders and cooperating partners.
  • Adhere and uphold the IRC code of conduct at the respective work areas of work
Other
  • To carry-out any other duties and/or responsibilities assigned by the immediate supervisor.
  • To be flexible as required.
Key Result Areas:
  • Ensure strict admission and discharge criteria to OTP
  • Ensure more than 80% coverage of children with SAM in the catchment areas are enrolled in the program.
  • Ensure Defaulter rates are maintained at less than 10% in the health post.
  • Ensure cure rates of above 90% for children enrolled in the program.
  • Ensure that mortalities resulting from acute malnutrition in the catchment area are less than 5%.
  • Improved and timely treatment of malnutrition related medical complications and referral to the SC.
  • Improve capacity of persons working in the health post and OTP on screening, identification and appropriate management of malnutrition for children under 10 years of age.
  • Improved IYCF key practices, health and nutrition seeking behaviour.             
Minimum requirements
  • Qualified and registered nurse.
  • Previous field experience in a related field
  • Proven problem solving and organizational skills
  • Diplomatic and an effective communicator at all levels
  • Supportive personnel management style and ability to manage teams
  • Strong leadership skills
  • Fluent written and spoken English.
  • Computer skills
  • Qualification in nursing as KRCHN, ECN or KECHN
  • Addition nutrition training in CMAM/IMAM and IYCF is an added advantage.
  • Previous experience in Arid and Semi Arid Lands of Kenya
  • Previous experience working in insecure contexts
  • Strong background in humanitarian projects
